ARKANSAS HIGHWAY POLICE SEIZE ANOTHER DRUG SHIPMENT
LITTLE ROCK (5-16) Officers from the Arkansas Highway Police Division of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) have uncovered another shipment of illegal drugs, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers.
On Wednesday, May 16, 2007, a tractor-trailer rig was stopped at the Highway Police station on Interstate 40 at Alma. During an inspection of the truck, officers from the Arkansas Highway Police discovered several bundles of marijuana weighing about 152 pounds with a street value of approximately $114,000.
The driver was identified as Javier Terrazas, age 42, of Phoenix, Arizona. It is believed the truck and empty trailer were traveling from Texas to Arkansas. Terrazas and a passenger, Leobardo Payan of Phoenix, Arizona, were arrested at the scene for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. They are being held at the Crawford County Detention Center. Terrazas and Payan are scheduled for arraignment in Crawford County Court on Wednesday, May 30, 2007.
This is the third drug seizure at the Alma Weigh Station in less than one month. On April 26, the Arkansas Highway Police seized 2,300 pounds of marijuana and on May 4, they seized another 927 pounds.
