LITTLE ROCK (5-12)
WHO:
Arkansas
Highway Commission,
Arkansas Highway
and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials, local elected officials and
others.
WHAT:
A
brief ceremonial event to dedicate completion of the new Highway 100 Railroad
Overpass.
WHEN:
Friday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m.
WHERE:
The event will take place on top of the new southbound Highway 100
railroad overpass – located in northwest Maumelle just south of the old
Conway Highway
(Highway 365). Parking will be available in the right lane on the southbound
side.
WHY:
The
new Highway 100 railroad overpass is a $7.4 million project that eliminates a
high volume “at grade” crossing at one of only two entrances to Maumelle.
The new overpass not only eliminates potential train-vehicle accidents, but it
can also mean the difference in reaching an emergency at the elementary school
or even ambulance service saving someone’s life. Approximately 15,000 vehicles a day use Highway 100
at this location and about 20-24 trains pass these tracks daily.
