ate Highway
and Transportation Department (AHTD) has announced that a Workzone Information
System website providing live road conditions on Interstates 40 and 55 in the
West Memphis
area is now available on the Internet for motorists.
The website is located at www.wmemphisi40wzis.com
and provides motorists with live camera feeds of both Interstates in
West Memphis
, current travel speeds through the area, message sign information and highway
advisory radio information. The
information can also be accessed by visiting www.arkansashighways.com
and clicking on “Roads.”
Crews are presently making improvments to the Interstate 40/Interstate 55
East interchange and the website was created to help motorists monitor
conditions through the workzone.
“This website is going to allow motorists to visit the webpage and see
what current conditions are on the Interstates in the workzone area before they
travel ,” stated AHTD District Engineer Ray Woodruff.
The construction project is located on the east side of
West Memphis
and will make improvements to the Interstate 40/Interstate 55 East interchange
at
West Memphis
. The project will include a new
westbound overpass for Interstate 40 traffic, a new eastbound overpass for
Interstate 40 traffic and reconstruction of the Interstate 55 lanes through the
interchange area. The contract for
the project was awarded to APAC-Tennessee of
Memphis
,
Tennessee
, for $26,693,323.
Completion of the project is expected in the summer of 2010.
